A cast iron bathtub gives a bathroom an older and more elegant look. These extremely heavy bathtubs are extremely durable and therefore some of the most expensive bathtubs one can own. They require special care and cleaning or else it can change to strange undesirable colors that are hard to remove from the porcelain enamel coating that is applied to the cast iron. With a little time and extra care a cast iron bathtub can give a classy look to any home. Things You'll Need:
Step 1
Mix one tablespoon of liquid detergent to one gallon of hot water. Scrub the tub with a nonabrasive soft clean cloth and rinse well to avoid leaving soap scum. This should be done on a routine basis to avoid soap or lime scale buildup. Step 2
Mix one tablespoon of trisodium phosphate in one gallon of hot water and scrub away any soap scum or grease from the bathtub with a soft clean cloth and rinse well with clean water. Step 3
Make a paste of equal parts lemon juice and flour and apply it to difficult stains and allow it to sit overnight before rinsing away with clear water. Step 4
Purchase CLR and follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully to remove rust stains. Be sure to use a soft clean cloth and ventilate the area well as CLR fumes can be hazardous. Step 5
Dampen a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser to remove paint or any other hard to remove stains. Tips & Warnings Avoid the use of abrasive cleaners or cleaning materials such as steel wool on cast iron bathtubs as this may scratch the porcelain.
